Selecting the right connection type
- Select Bluetooth for ELM 327 compatible Bluetooth adapters.
- Select Bluetooth LE for the LELink Bluetooth adapter. Your Android device must support Bluetooth LE and be running Android 4.3 or newer.
- Select Automatic Car Adapter for 2nd and 3rd generation Automatic car adapters. When using the Automatic Car Adapter, some application functionality is limited due to adapter limitations.
- Select Wi-Fi for OBDLink MX Wi-Fi.
- Select USB for ELM 327 compatible USB adapters. Your Android device must support USB host mode to use a USB adapter.
- Open Settings on your Android device and turn Bluetooth ON.
- Pair the adapter to your phone following the pairing instructions for your specific adapter.
- Connect your adapter to your vehicle and turn the vehicle ignition to ON.
- Open OBD Fusion and select Settings > Communications.

In the Communication Type dialog, select Bluetooth.

- Under Bluetooth Settings, tap Bluetooth Device

Select the adapter that was previously paired.

- Tap the back button to return to the OBD Fusion Home page.
- Tap the connect button to connect to the vehicle.
Note that OBD Fusion can only connect to LELink, Kiwi 3, and Vgate iCar Bluetooth LE adapters.
- Open Settings on your Android device and turn Bluetooth ON.
- Connect your adapter to your vehicle and turn the vehicle ignition to ON.
- Open OBD Fusion and select Settings > Communications.

In the Communication Type dialog, select Bluetooth LE.

- Tap the back button to return to the OBD Fusion Home page.
- Tap the connect button to connect to the vehicle.
OBD Fusion will search for adapters that are within range, so there is no need to pair the adapter with your Android device.
Note that OBD Fusion can only connect to 2nd and 3rd generation Automatic car adapters.
- Open Settings on your Android device and turn Bluetooth ON.
- Connect your Automatic adapter to your vehicle and turn the vehicle ignition to ON.
- Pair the Automatic adapter to your phone.
- Open OBD Fusion and select Settings > Communications.

In the Communication Type dialog, select Automatic Car Adapter.

- Tap the back button to return to the OBD Fusion Home page.
- Tap the connect button to connect to the vehicle.

Enter your Automatic account email and password. Tap 'Authorize App' to allow OBD Fusion to receive data from the Automatic Adapter.

- Subsequent connection attempts will not require logging into your Automatic account.
Note that the Automatic adapter has a power saving feature that may result in the Connection Failure error shown. This might require you to start your engine and retry multiple times to achieve a successful connection.

Note that Android does not support ad-hoc Wi-Fi connections. The instructions below are for connecting to OBDLink MX Wi-Fi which supports infrastructure mode.
- Connect your Wi-Fi scan tool to your vehicle and turn the vehicle ignition to ON.
- Open the Wi-Fi settings on your Android device.
- Enable Wi-Fi if it is not already enabled.

Select the network corresponding to your Wi-Fi scan tool.

- Open OBD Fusion and select Settings > Preferences > Communications.

In the Communication Type dialog, select Wi-Fi.

- Under the Wi-Fi Settings category, select your OBD scan tool. If you do not see your scan tool listed, select Custom.

If you selected Custom in the previous step, you must set the IP address and Port number of your Wi-Fi scan tool. Refer to the documentation for your Wi-Fi scan tool to determine the IP address and Port number. Most ELM Wi-Fi scan tools use the IP address 192.168.0.10 and Port 35000.
- Tap the back button to return to the OBD Fusion Home page.
- Tap the connect button to connect to the vehicle.
- Connect your adapter to your vehicle and turn the vehicle ignition to ON.

Connect the USB connector of the adapter to your Android device. Depending on the connectors that are available on your device, you might need a micro USB to USB adapter. If you are prompted to permit OBD Fusion to use this USB device, choose OK.

- Open OBD Fusion and select Settings > Communications.

In the Communication Type dialog, select USB.

- Tap the back button to return to the OBD Fusion Home page.
- Tap the connect button to connect to the vehicle.
